Compute Antarctic investigates Antarctica as an interconnected Earth system, from the interactions between glaciers, oceans and the underlying bedrock to the structure and evolution of the deep Earth. Explore our five research themes to learn more about the science, researchers and geophysical techniques behind our work.

We investigate the processes that control how Antarctica’s outlet glaciers move, deform and change over time, including studies of Sørsdal Glacier and the Denman and Vanderford–Totten glacier systems.

What happens where the ice sheet meets the ground beneath it strongly influences how quickly ice can move. We investigate this hidden boundary, including its structure, subglacial sediments, meltwater and geothermal heat.

We investigate the structure and properties of the crust, lithosphere and mantle beneath Antarctica, exploring how the solid Earth influences geothermal heat and responds to changes in ice mass.

Antarctica holds important clues to the evolution of Earth’s continents and tectonic plates. We investigate its geological structure to better understand the processes that have shaped our planet.

Antarctica’s outlet glaciers connect the ice sheet to the surrounding ocean. We investigate interactions between glaciers, ice shelves and the ocean, and how these processes influence changes in the Antarctic ice sheet.
